CRE8 sat down with Fernanda Kelly

Latina Buddhist Actress/Writer Founder & CEO ShopHerClosetKM

1. Introduce yourself

My name is Fernanda Kelly.

I was born in San Diego raised in Tijuana Mexico. I am an actress, writer and an entrepreneur.

2. What kind of art do you do?

The Art that I do is acting. In movies, plays, commercials, TV Shows and I also wrote a dramedy based on my life, currently in the process of being picked up and or developed. And then I have the entrepreneurial side of me, which blends my love for art and fashion through my Online Clothing Store called "NYTAQ" (NOT YOUR TYPICAL AVERAGE QUEEN) Former "Shop Her Closet KM". At NYTAQ, we feature the work of women artists on denim jackets, vegan leather jacket jackets. We are the creators of the "CON OVARIOS." Tee (WITH OVARIES) a shirt that seeks to remind and highlight the inherent power we have as women.

3. What are the things you're most proud of/grateful for?

It would be very unfair to my 16 years in the entertainment business to just name one or two accomplishments I'm proud of. It has not been an easy road in any way and if I look at the different stages of my career, I can honestly say, every Emmy, every Telly, every audition booked, every Show I've hosted, has been a moment of pride. I cherish every detail dearly.

4. What seems to be your biggest struggle being an artist? I tend to be my own worst enemy. So definitely self doubt. Self sabotage. I believe when we have big goals, the resistance is as big, if not bigger. So the biggest struggle is having the wisdom to recognize when our art is being led by anything other than love and trust.

5. How do you override these struggles?

By chanting. I have been an SGI Buddhist for around 13 years now.

I chant NAM-MYOHO-RENGE-KYO, which means: "Devotion to the mystic law of cause and effect through sound". It's a form of meditation that allows us to tap into our inner wisdom and inherent power. It's a very profound practice. So at the end of the day, to answer in short, through faith!

6. What are you currently working on? just launched the new Online Store, so I'm extremely excited and proud of my entire team. We are currently focused on taking our "CON OVARIOS." Tee to the next level. Our goal is that every woman in the worlds owns her own "CON OVARIOS." Tee from NYTAQ!

On the artist side, I'm determined to have my show picked up by a production company by the end of 2019! I have my eye on two specific people, just waiting to hear back from them.

7. What is you're Mission as an artist?

To inspire. To be a walking example that whatever we dream of can always become a reality if we chose to do the work. And ultimately, make this world a better place through my own growth and commitment to my mission.
