CRE8 sat down with Virginia Ayala

Visual Story Teller and Creator of DeLaLunaDesigns

1. Introduce yourself

Hi my name is Virginia Ayala, my brand is De La Luna Designs “The Art Of Story Telling”.

2. What kind of art do you do?

I love finding unique Accessories and redesigning them with fabrics that I find, print or  re-purpose. The fabrics are hand cut then layered to create a unique story.

3. What are you most proud of?

I'm most proud of believing in my creativity and stepping out of the box to sustain me and my family.

4. What seems to be your biggest struggle as an artist?

I'm an artist, I own a business and I have family I need to balance. When I focus on one I feel I’m neglecting the others. When I give them equal time I feel I’m not dedicated to either. Always feeling there’s not enough time.  Knowing that and being ok with it is hard.

5. How do you deal with these struggles?

I'm not sure if I can over come the feeling but I just have to do it. I sometimes work late hours so I can go to the park with my son. Sometimes I hire people to help me with production. Sometimes my son sleeps over grandmas house. I have to say to myself,  I am doing the best I can do and that’s good enough.

6. What are you currently working on?

I'm currently working on a summer lighter fabric line. Redesigned flowered shirts and long light pieces.

7. What is your mission as an artist?

My mission as an artist is to inspire others. To build confidence through clothing. To have people wear items that inspire a conversation.

My second business is Kaleidoscope Kollective a retail space in Echo Park. Our mission statement is Reflect your Beauty and Creativity. We are all unique individuals and have so much amazing energy to give and receive.
